Kobudokan info
Kobudokan system had its beginning in the late 80’s, when Lars Andersen began to teach students in the Isshinryu Bo (stick) and Sai. In Isshinryu Karate, basics were strong in everything from basic strikes, kicking, locks etc. However, when starting with weapons, it was directly with Kusanku Sai and Tokomeni no Kun (Bo kata).
Lars therefore designed two kihon forms - Bo Kihon Ichi and Sai Kihon Ichi, both based on the most elementary basic techniques in both arms. Embusen (STEP System) in both kihon were taken from Taikyoku Kata series, which have roots in the Pinan/Heian series, found in many systems, includin g Shorin-Ryu, Shingo-Ryu, Kyokushin, Shotokan, Shito-Ryu, etc.
In the early 90’s Isshinryu in Denmark started having close ties with Shingo-Ryu (Led by Lasse Jensen). One of the common interests was Kobudo. As people advanced, more basics and partner exercises were needed.
Bo Kihon Ni came first and was built in Bo Kihon Ichi, but combined with the principle combination from Tokomeni No Kun. That is a 1st dan kata in Isshinryu Karate. Sai Kihon Ni was developed in the same manner in which the combination was a basic series of Kusanku Sai/ Kyan No Sai.
Sai Kihon Ni was later changed so that the combination was taken from Chatan Yara No Sai, as this is an orthodox Shinken Taira Kobudo Kata.
In 2005, Kobudokans syllabus was compiled by Mads Nørby and Lars Andersen and based on about 80% Isshinryu Kobudo. The rest comes from Patrick McCarthy Sensei's Yamane Ryu and Oshiro Sensei's Yamanni-Ryu (Where Mads Nørby holds a black belt). The tactical background of Lars Andersen has also been of great importance.
Kobudokan system is trained today in Denmark by practitioners from Shingo-Ryu, Isshinryu, Okinawa Goju-Ryu, Kyokushin, and Itosu-Ryu.
Furthermore, the system is trained in Romania, Kosovo, USA and Moldova.
In 2009, 2010 Lars Andersen and Mads Nørby visited Okinawa and trained with Uechi Sensei again. In 2010 Lars Andersen also trained with Tokumura Sensei while in the US.
In 2011 Lars Andersen and Mads Nørby went back to Okinawa and trained with both Uechi Sensei and Tokumura Sensei. During that visit a formal link to Tokumura Sensei’s Ryukyu Kobudo Tokushin-ryu was made.
